Publication in the thematic issue of the international journal Dire et Chanter Les Passions
celebrating the 90th birthday of Mirella Freni

The international journal Dire et Chanter Les Passions is inviting submissions for a forthcoming thematic issue entitled Mirella Freni and Emotions. The aim of this issue is to study various dimensions of Mirella Freni’s international career, and also to highlight the artistic and emotional characteristics of her voice. Mirella Freni has left her mark on the international opera scene through her performances, her discography, her artistic collaborations (with singing partners, conductors and directors) and her roles in the Italian, French and Russian opera repertoires. This issue aims to focus, among other things, on the importance of text in the interpretation of song, and on the close link that exists between the spoken voice and the sung voice in terms of artistic expression and the reception of emotions, as Mirella Freni often reminds us during her singing masterclasses: “Si canta come si parla!” The aim here is also to reflect on Mirella Freni’s art as a whole.
Contributions may focus on the following themes, among others:
  • text(s) and interpretation(s)
  • languages, music and emotions
  • singing, sensory perceptions and emotions
  • history of opera
  • literature and opera
  • Mirella Freni and her opera partners
  • Mirella Freni and opera singers
  • vocal technique and emotions
  • operatic repertoires
  • national, European and international cultures and emotions
Contributions may also address, among other things, Mirella Freni’s influence, both human and artistic, on opera and on individual singers, as well as those singers and musicians who inspired and influenced her.

Proposals (in French, Italian or English), including the title of the article, a short summary and a brief biography of the author, should be sent to contact-revue-dclp@dclp.eu by 15/09/2024, and the article, sent no later than 27/02/2025, the anniversary date. Articles will be published in the international journal Dire et Chanter Les Passions https://dclp.eu/en/revue-dclp, subject to acceptance by the journal’s scientific committee.
